Hello! I just noticing irregular white flakes forming on my rocks and back glass yesterday and today. They remind me of lichen but they aren't very secure to the glass or rocks. When I put my finger by them, the movement of my finger towards them causes them to fall off and sink. I've looked around and it seems most white spots on the forums and internet are because of snails. Any ideas of what it could be or if it is harmful to my tank?

Maybe it is a TDS (total dissolved solids) and TSS (total suspended solids) problem.
Salts (one component of TDS) may be precipitating and falling out of solution in crystals and/or a floculating agent is being added to water leading to floculation of both TDS and TSS.
IF the flakes are TDS and TSS falling out of water column, they are not harmful. Remove the precipitates with water changes or use a micron filter to remove.

Then again maybe these white flakes are something entirely different.
